The Vice President of Development (“VPD”) will report directly to the President/CEO and supervise all statewide development staff. The VPD will be responsible for developing and achieving fundraising goals, increasing donor base, and building on success with sponsors, foundations, and individual donors. This individual will share a genuine passion for the mission and a real commitment to growth, sustainability, and impact.
 
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
  • Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, collaborating with the CEO and senior leadership on organizational strategy and vision.
  • Lead the Development Department staff with clear KPIs and cadence.
  • Lead Quarterly Funding Alignment Workshops with Programs and Marketing Departments to translate services into donor-ready “fundable offers.”
  • Participate in weekly Development × Marketing syncs and biweekly Development × Programs meetings to align storytelling, outcomes data, and donor engagement.
  • Implement the Development Department Strategic Plan (2026–2031).
  • Actively participate in ongoing strategic planning process to define and execute short- and long-term goals.
Donor Relations
  • Lead all individual major/planned gifts, including prospect identification, management, cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship.
  • Develop and execute structured Major Giving strategies, including portfolio assignment, moves management, CEO engagement, and recognition.
  • Enhance existing donor recognition program, including donor societies and membership groups.
  • In partnership with the CEO, develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors; create and execute a strategy for a large, diversified, and sustained base of steady philanthropic partners, including individuals and foundations.
Revenue Growth
  • Develop, update, and execute annual development plan to support current operations and potential new projects and initiatives.
  • Accountable for donor strategy and fundraising outcomes associated with events
  • Establish and manage structured fundraising programs including:
  • Research and recommend new sources of revenue that align with priorities.
  • Provide strategic oversight for donor events, ensuring alignment with cultivation, stewardship, and revenue goals;
  • Create multi-year fundraising plans with measurable goals and timelines.
Grants Leadership
  • Provide executive oversight of the organization’s grants strategy, pipeline, and funding continuity.
  • Ensure systems, staffing, and workflows are in place to proactively identify, pursue, and steward mission-aligned grant opportunities.
  • Hold grants staff and consultants accountable for submission quality, compliance, reporting, and renewal strategies.
  • Ensure grant funding aligns with program priorities, capacity, and long-term sustainability.
Data Management
  • Serve as executive owner of the donor CRM
  • Establish CRM data standards, reporting cadence, and accountability protocols across development staff.
  • Conduct scheduled and ad hoc CRM audits and performance reviews to ensure data accuracy, integrity, and adoption.
  • Hold development staff accountable for timely, accurate data entry and pipeline management.
  • Prepare rolling 12-month revenue forecasts.
  • Provide regular updates to the CEO and Board on fundraising progress challenges and recommended course correction
  • Provide leadership for the continued enhancement of computerized systems for tracking donors and fundraising analytics.
  • Develop performance metrics and evaluation tools to ensure fundraising goals are met or exceeded.
  • Build and manage the Development Department budget aligned with organizational priorities.
Communications
  • Partner with leadership and the marketing team to align statewide branding and raise visibility to a broad range of constituents including the at-large community, providers, funders, and media.
  • Develop a comprehensive communication strategy for regular and timely fundraising impact reporting to internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure timely donor acknowledgements and impact reports are distribution.
  • Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and public forums to enhance visibility and influence.
  • Develop strategies to mobilize supporters as advocates for the organization’s mission and impact.
Board Engagement
  • Assist in planning, staffing, and presenting at Board meetings and select committee meetings.
  • Lead the Board Development Committee working closely with board members to increase revenues and fulfill development roles.
  • Implement Board fundraising engagement tools including network mapping, donor introductions, participation dashboards, and fundraising training in partnership with the CEO.
  • Work with CEO and Board to maintain a robust long-term donor pipeline.
Operations, Staff Development and Culture
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning within the Development Department.
  • Provide mentorship, leadership development, and performance management for development staff.
  • Communicate regularly with support staff across Florida to support regional fundraising presence.
  • Participate in Alliance fundraising activities, staff meetings, and department meetings.
  • Abide by all Alliance and state policies, procedures, and mandates.
  • Always represent the agency in a positive manner.
Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of demonstrated success building and leading the development function in an entrepreneurial, high-performing nonprofit organization.
  • Demonstrated record of accomplishment of securing five and six-digit gifts from corporations, foundations, individual donors, and/or public sources.
  • Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with a proven ability to write effectively and speak persuasively; strong ability to tell a compelling story.
  • Superior organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Capability to think strategically while executing tactically within a lean environment.
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge or equivalent CRM system.
  • Understanding of healthcare landscape, and a genuine interest in the Alliance’s mission, vision, and strategic direction.
  • Demonstrated capacity to remotely manage responsibilities and staff oversight highly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
